100M

Welcome to the 10th edition of the Jan Knippenberg Memorial (JKM) on Good Friday 6 April and Easter Saturday 7 April 2012!

This ultra race is to commemorate Jan Knippenberg, the Dutch ultra-pioneer who died in November 1995. The first edition of the JKM was held in spring 1996 and comprised a run along the entire beach of Holland from Den Helder to Hoek van Holland. After the third edition in 1998 the JKM became biannual and started to alternate with ‘De Zestig van Texel’ - the 120K and 60K races around Texel on Easter Monday of the odd years. The JKM editions of 2004 and 2006 only comprised a loop of 50 mile from and to Den Helder, but in 2008 and 2010 the long run was re-established, now in the other direction, from south to north. The distance became a true 100 mile (161 km) by shifting the start from Hoek van Holland to Vlaardingen.

The organization of the 2012 edition is by ‘The friends of the JKM’ and led by racedirector Dick de Waal Malefijt (Vijfhuizen) & secretary Martien Baars (Texel). They cooperate with a number of friends and several athletic clubs along the course. The Athletics Club Texel (AV Texel) has registered the JKM as official race of the Royal Dutch Athletics Federation (KNAU). The race has also got the IAU Bronze Label and will participate in the Marathon & Ultra Cup 2012, a Belgian-Dutch competition.

The JKM comprises two race distances: the 100 mile (161k) and the 50 mile (80.5k)
The 100 EM starts in the track stadium of Olympus '70 in Naaldwijk at the evening of Good Friday 06 April 2012 at 22:00 (10:00pm).
The 50 EM starts at the 'Timmerfabriek' in the Kromhoutstraat in IJmuiden in the morning of Easter Saturday 07 April 2012 at 08:30 am.
Finish for both races: not later than Saturday 07 April 2012 18:00 (06:00pm) Den Helder. This means a 20 hour limit for 161 km/100 m and a 9.5 hour limit for 80.5 km/50 m. The finish location will be the Tennis Club Topspin inside the dike along the sea.
The 50 mile runners will do an extra loop of 5 km in the dunes before they will enter the beach in Wijk aan Zee (in order to obtain the full 80.5 km distance). There will be 6 refreshment posts both in between Naaldwijk and IJmuiden and in between IJmuiden and Den Helder (thus every 12 km on average).
Full details of the locations, and the way transfer to the start locations will be arranged for those who come by public transport, will be announced later.

The 50 mile race is open for everybody (professional, amateur, Athletics Club Member or just a runner) and the same holds for the 100 mile race but as far as one of the Qualifying Standards (see below) describes you.

Qualifying Standards for the JKM 100 mile along the Dutch coast are equal to those for the 120K Texel race. Within the last 6 years (2006-2011) the participant has to have achieved one of the following:
1) Official 100k within 09.30, or
2) Within an official 12 hours race more than 120k, or
3) Within an official 24 hours race more than 200k.
If you have successfully finished the Spartathlon during 2006-2011 (or the JKM 100 mile 2008 or 2010 or the 120K Texel 2007-2009-2011) you are also allowed to register for the JKM 100 2012.
In addition, the organization reserves the right to allow anybody into the race with different achievements than aforementioned. Additional information underlying such a ‘wildcard’ request should be e-mailed to martien.baars@nioz.nl

Registration for the 100 mile and 50 mile races is only possible till 07 March 2012, one month before the race. No registration allowed on the day of the race. https://www.inschrijven.nl/formulier?id=20120406041508

The entry fee for the 100 mile is € 60 and for the 50 mile € 44.
There will be monthly newsletters in English by e-mail to the foreign participants registered.
The websites http://www.janknippenbergmemorial.nl and http://www.ultraned.org will also have regular updates with practical information and names of the people registered. The confirmation e-mail after you have successfully registered, also provides some practical information.

Nichts gebrochen, nichts gerissen -
